Me in Malawi

Notes

Lake Malawi

If you ever find yourself in Malawi for whatever reason, go to the lake.  It is exquisite.  Deena and I spent a much needed restful weekend at a very rustic lodge in Salima.  We felt like we were on vacation, sleeping in a simple room with a hut next door housing the toilet and outdoor shower, which I love, and spending hours on what felt like our own private beach.  We woke up to a magnificent view of the lake each morning, which stretches as long as about half the country in length and feels more like an ocean than anything else. We imagined we’d meet interesting people this weekend, thinking it would be a time to spark conversation with people other than each other, but alas aside from a brief conversation with 2 older men from Scotland who really lit up our night (not really), it was pretty much just us, and how wonderful that we have so much fun together, that we can be content in these secluded situations having only recently met before this journey.  I am so thankful for this company and the growing understanding we are forming of our unique needs that emerge in the challenges we face.  We take care of each other, give each other space and take great comfort in the support system we’ve built.  I feel rested and relaxed.  I am sun-kissed and happy.  And, I am ready, as I am at the end of every weekend, to throw myself into another week of village living. Sending oh so much love and hoping it pours out to all of you who read my weekly updates.  Thank you for keeping up with me.
