A television in the village…whhhhat?
Since we arrived I’ve been wondering why there is a tiny television in the main room of our village home. There is no electricity, after all. On several occasions, Patso unsuccessfully attempted to connect its wires to a large battery sitting on the floor. Last week, Papa had two technicians come from town to fix the broken television. Sure enough, we now have a black and white, battery operated t.v. in the middle of the village. I have gotten so used to living this life without television, feeling completely comfortably with this and refreshed to have a reason to read so much. I have even gotten used to not having 24/7 access to email and the internet. And while it was quite remarkable that they got this little box to work, it is also so unappealing to me to watch. I am happy with the simple life here, content to have a break from the overstimulation that surrounds me at home. Don’t get wrong though - NYC is still one of the greatest cities on earth.
